If your 2027 plan includes an MBA/PGDM Program, you have likely come across XAT. It is run by XLRI Jamshedpur. XAT is a well known management entrance test in India, and more than 250 B schools accept it.

XAT 2027 Exam Date

XAT 2027 will be held on 3 January 2027.  The exam is set for 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

Registration details are as follows.  

• The window began on 15 July 2026.  

• You need to finish the application by 6 December 2026.

• Admit card timing is expected next.  

• It should be released on 20 December 2026.  

• The result is expected in mid January 2027.

• If XAT is in your plan, do not wait for CAT results.  

• You may get more benefit after CAT as well.  

That said, it works better when you have already begun with questions that feel like the XAT style.

XAT 2027 Registration

For XAT 2027, you will complete the application on the website.

• First, make an account.  

• Then enter your personal details.  

• After that, add your academic information.

• Next comes the documents step.  

• Upload what the form asks for.  

• Then choose your test city.  

• Finally, pay the application fee.

The fee is ₹2,300 to start.  

If you select an XLRI programme, there is an extra ₹200 for each option you add

• Before you submit, review everything.  

• Check your academics again.  

• Also confirm your photo and the rest of your entries.  

It is often easier to prevent small errors than to correct them later.

XAT 2027 Eligibility

The XAT 2027 eligibility criteria are fairly straightforward. Graduates with a recognised bachelor's degree of at least three years can apply, irrespective of their graduation stream. Final-year students can also appear, subject to the prescribed degree-completion requirements.

XAT 2027 syllabus and exam pattern

The XAT 2027 syllabus covers Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning. It also has Decision Making and Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation. There is also General Knowledge.

In the complete exam, the first three sections are the core aptitude part. General Knowledge comes as a separate section.

There are 95 questions in total. You get 180 minutes.

XAT allows you to move between the main sections during the test. This is not true for every other entrance exam.

Many test takers feel the syllabus is not the main issue. Often the bigger challenge is how the questions are written.

In Decision Making, you need to read carefully. At times, both options can seem correct at first.

How Should You Prepare for XAT 2027?

Don't try to reinvent your entire CAT preparation. Your Quant and Verbal work will already cover a large part of XAT.

Instead, give XAT-specific preparation enough space. Solve previous XAT papers, practise Decision Making regularly and start taking timed tests. Reading newspapers and good business content can help with both comprehension and General Knowledge.

Review your mock tests first. Finishing one is not the goal. Check the items you missed. Also check the ones you answered by guessing. Then check the questions you skipped even though you knew the method. Most progress comes from this part.

XAT Cutoff and Best XAT Accepting Colleges

There isn't one universal XAT cutoff. Every institute sets its own benchmark, and the requirement can also differ by programme.

XLRI is still the most known name for XAT, but it does not stand alone. There are other XAT accepting colleges. These include MDI, IMT Ghaziabad, XIM University, TAPMI, GIM Goa, Great Lakes, IMI Delhi, BIMTECH, and IRMA. More options may also exist.

Compare fees, specialisation, placements, location, curriculum and the kind of roles offered after graduation deserve equal attention.

PGDM Options at MGI

For students considering Pune, Mulshi Group of Institute (MGI) is another PGDM option to explore. MGI's Mulshi Institute of Business Management accepts XAT scores for the PGDM admission process.

As per the stated eligibility rules, you can apply with 65 percentile or higher in XAT. You also need at least 50% marks in graduation, or an equivalent CGPA. The selection uses more than one factor. It looks at academics, your written test, GD and PI, and work experience.

For an MBA aspirant, the takeaway is fairly simple: prepare for XAT with CAT, but don't prepare for it exactly like CAT. Give Decision Making the attention it deserves, practise with actual XAT papers and keep more than one college option open. That gives you a much stronger position when admission season arrives.
